Our management team is responsible for setting out and implementing the strategic aims of our business. We have a diverse mix of experienced leaders that form our Executive Committee who are passionate about prioritising our customers and leading the direction of our business.

Our history
Corporate history

At Unum we’re proud of our long-established heritage and to have grown over the decades to become one of the UK’s leading employee benefit providers. Here’s just a snapshot of our key milestones over that time.

  • 1965

    National Employers Liability Assurance (NEL) moves its head office to the historic Milton Court in Dorking, where we are still based today.

  • 1970

    N.E.L. Permanent Health Insurances Limited (NELPHI) is incorporated as a subsidiary company to NEL.

  • 1990

    Unum Corporation (US) purchases NEL and becomes the parent company of NELPHI.

  • 1991

    NELPHI changes its name to Unum Limited.

  • 1999

    Unum Corporation merges with Provident Companies to become UnumProvident.

  • 2007

    UnumProvident Corporation changes its name to Unum Group, with three primary divisions: Unum US, Unum UK and Colonial Life.

  • 2012

    Unum UK begins our long-term partnership with Maggie’s cancer charity to raise awareness of — and support — people with cancer.

  • 2015

    Unum acquires National Dental Plan and introduces Unum Dental, our first non-Group Risk employee benefit offering.

  • 2018

    Unum acquires Poland-based employee benefits provider Pramerica Życie, expanding our European footprint.

  • 2019

    Unum sees extraordinary take up on launch of Help@hand, which offers fast, direct access to health and wellbeing support via a dedicated app.

  • 2021

    Unum Group announce leadership transition for UK and Poland with Mark Till confirmed as Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer.

  • 2022

    Unum enhances our Group Life offering with Cancer Assist. Backed by cancer experts Reframe, it gives in-the-moment support to employees with cancer.

  • 2023

    Unum signs a deal with global healthcare services provider Cigna to purchase the renewal rights for Cigna’s UK dental customers.
